Stay and hang with queers in Montreal

Every summer, Sainte-Catherine Street East closes to cars, rainbow flags go up and the Village spills out onto a kilometre of terrasses that hum until late. Swim at Plage Jean-Doré on Île Notre-Dame when the city gets sticky, with the skyline right across the river. Hike up Mount Royal to the Kondiaronk lookout as dusk settles over downtown. Afterwards, catch a show at Cabaret Mado, named after drag legend Mado Lamotte, or play pool and line dance at Bar Champs on Saint-Laurent.

Fierté Montréal throws ten days of parties in the Village around the start of August, ending with a parade along René-Lévesque. Any Saturday, browse the shelves at L'Euguélionne, the queer feminist bookshop on Beaudry, and say hi to the booksellers.
