Stay and hang with queers in Los Angeles

Photo: Denys Nevozhai on Unsplash

Los Angeles feels smallest in Silver Lake, where queer friends walk laps around the reservoir and linger over iced coffee on Sunset Boulevard. Save a hot afternoon for Ginger Rogers Beach, the queer patch of Will Rogers State Beach that has been a refuge since the 1940s, and wait for the sun to slip into the Pacific. Back on the east side, sing your heart out at Honey's at Star Love, a lesbian bar in East Hollywood, or dance until close at Akbar, the Silver Lake bar everybody loves.

Each June, Dyke Day LA covers Sycamore Grove Park in picnic blankets, performers and queers of every age. On any ordinary evening, a slow loop of Echo Park Lake with a friend is hard to beat.
